| I just found out about this website from Stewart yesteday. Have enjoyed it very much. Sunnyridge was a significant experience for me and I have looked back on it fondly many times over the years. I loved going down to Harris and picking blackberries. We would pick and eat to our heart and stomach's content and then come back and the women would can the berries, make jams, preserves, conserves pies, yoghurt and blackberries and honey. I have never seen a blackbeery field like that one since. It was huge. I remember my first night at Sunnyridge. We were in the lower cabin-I think we called it the loft. Someone said "pass the pecans" and I said, "could I have some"? So they passed me the can and I stuck my hand in expecting to come up with a handful of pecans and instead I came up with pee and toilet paper. I should apologize to Stan-I think it was him who I really made mad, when i took a jar of canned fruit out of the root cellar and ate it all myself. Wasn't very communal of me-but I couldn't wait till it was the winter and we would start eating the canned fruit. I remember Betty reading the Narnia Chronicles to Leah and Nina and I used to listen. They were and are great books. They had a profound influence on me spirititually. C.S. Lewis, the author has written many great books. I remember Phil M. catching a rattle snake in the woodshed with a forked stick and another one with a looped rope. He held the tail in one hand and behind the head in the other and asked me to drive the red p/up down the road so he could release the snake without harming it. I foolishly agreed to drive as he sat next to me. The snake looked like evil incarnate and was ready to swallow my head. I drove a mile or two and insisted we release it there. I loved that red pick uo truck with the windshield that rolled up. I have had a thing for old pickups ever since. The oldest one I ever had was a 55 International. I suppose there is just something nostalgic and simple about them. I remember a couple from Takilma who had just lost their baby come up to the claim to comfort us! They knew that we were upset for them so they came up to share with us about the night they had with their baby before it died. They told us not to be upset for them because their baby was with the Lord. Then they taught us the song, "We will understand it better by and by". They were christians. I can still remember how to play that song on the guitar. Does anyone remeber the funky house I built on the hill. It was really pathetic. Thanks for putting up with it. Do you remember the flies? And the bees? One year it was really bad and we put cans with water and honey everywhere to catch the bees or hornets. I didn't mean to write so much but like I said looking at the pictures and reading the archives brought back a lot of memories. I'll save the rest for later if anyone is interested. To answer Teddy's question, I live in Fullerton Ca. My 3 daughters, Rebecca, Stephanie and Melissa live close. I finally graduated college in '98 and am now working on a Masters. We live and work at the college, Hope International University, so in a way we are still living communally. That's it for now. Happy birthday Jimmy. |

| I'm still getting used to the idea of seeing and reading about you online! I spend a lot of time online, so great to have you to share my time with. News Jesse, who was 1 at the time we lived at Sunnyridge is now 33 and living in San Francisco. We are now, unbelievably, living in So. Calif; my husband, Hedje, is teaching at Cal State San Bernardino, and I'm in management at San Bernardino Co. Mental Health!! Isha, who would have loved Sunnyridge is living in the .com world of LA. Saw Joanne& Richard recently, as well as the Mosses who were visitors to Sunnyridge in the early days. |

| i was a wee tot up a the commune. i was born to the pilger freaks on december 6, 1973. i heard about the place from a voice that came to me through a long tube attached to my belly at the time. my impression of the place was one of peace and possibility, but also of freedom and acceptance of the strangeness which exists in all human beings. i have embraced that strangeness and now offer it to the world on a silver platter, available to those interested in facing the unknown and embracing the challenge of discovery. i was born at home in a bed made by my father and enjoyed the company of many residents in the celebration of my entrance into the world. i was a resident for a few months, long enough to become typically restless and tell my folks "goo to the gee to the diggidy danky"- which was my way of saying "yo! dad-o! mommy! what up? i'm a sag, i gotta go! i gotta see the world and let it see me! so pack up the baby and let's create anarchy!!!" so we did. all of my life i have declared with pride "i was a sunnyridge baby" and people have responded with oooh's and aaah's, as if it were better than being born a princess, heir to the world. and it was. i am glad to have been a part of the expiriment and feel that it has influenced my overall feeling of uniqueness and personal power. do! | |

I came to SUNY (State University of New York), New Paltz, in the fall of '67. That spring I got my first off-campus apartment, at 2 church St. - later to become Big Michael's Clothing Store. My 2nd place was the top floor, middle window pictured here . The ground floor had been Larry & Harvey's Leather/Craft shop, AKA The Triptych. (See the History Page - New Paltz for a discussion on this). The peaked roof room in front may have been a later addition. Larry would probably remember better than me. I belive the address was 32 Chestnut St.
The "then" photo is from 1976, 2 or 3 years past Sunnyridge for me and without the full beard I probably sported in the S.R. days. Check out the silver belt buckle (B&W photo). It is a Tufa cast of a peyote button, in sterling silver and turquoise, made by Ed Dowling, another ex-New Paltz guy. I still wear it. The Now picture is my 50th birthday. Another "now" picture is me outside my Chiropractic office with me and one of my favorite patients, a fellow named BOB WEIR, vocalist and rythm guitar player for an outfit called the GREATFUL DEAD. | |
